拍品描述
Ɏ ITSUMIN: AN IVORY NETSUKE OF THE TWELVE ZODIAC ANIMALS (JUNISHI) By Hokyudo Itsumin, signed Hokyudo Itsumin to Japan, c. 1860 Finely carved with the twelve animals of the zodiac piled upon one another in the manner of a mountain. The leaping horse, tiger, and dragon dominate the composition, the latter clutching the wish-granting jewel in one claw, while the ox, boar, rooster, and dog are huddled closely together at the base. The rabbit is concealed between the horse and tiger, while the rat clings for dear life to the horse’s tail. One monkey rides astride the horse, while a second grasps the snake, which lies hidden atop the dragon. Most of the eyes are inlaid in dark and reddish horn. Signed to the underside within a shaped panel HOKYUDO ITSUMIN to [carved by Hokyudo Itsumin]. Natural himotoshi.
