专场简介
Introducing The Japanese Art Select Sale A new biannual auction series presenting a carefully curated selection of Japanese works of art, held each spring and autumn as a complement to our prestigious Fine Japanese Art sales in June and December. Created as a new collecting opportunity, the Select Sale brings together works spanning centuries of Japanese artistic production, from important historical pieces to notable examples by modern and contemporary artists. Presented through an online-only catalogue and culminating in a live auction event, each edition highlights works selected for their quality, craftsmanship, and artistic significance. The inaugural autumn edition features distinguished artists, including Living National Treasures such as Maeda Chikubosai II, Isezaki Jun, Hamada Shōji, Nakashima Hiroshi, Tokuda Yasokichi III, and Kōdō Otomaru, represented across ceramics, lacquer, bamboo, and bronze. Spanning from the Nara period to the Meiji era and beyond, the sale includes remarkable highlights such as the Miyao oni group with crystal ball (lot 17), a rare seated samurai figure (lot 60), a fine selection of samurai armour, swords and sword fittings, and Buddhist works of art tracing the development of Japanese religious art and craftsmanship from the Nara period to the late Edo period. Further highlights include an outstanding selection of lacquer works, including creations by modern and contemporary artists, an impressive group of netsuke, and a final section devoted to woodblocks, screens and paintings, featuring the Geiai screen from the Muromachi period (lot 478) and the important set of five scroll paintings by Soga Shōhaku (lot 507). We warmly invite collectors and enthusiasts of Japanese art to discover The Japanese Art Select Sale, bringing together a diverse range of works that reflects the richness and enduring appeal of Japanese artistic traditions.
