SHUMIN: A WOOD NOH MASK NETSUKE OF AN OLD WOMAN By Shumin, signed Shumin Japan, Edo (Tokyo), first half of the 19th century, Edo period (1615-1868) Finely carved as a Noh mask of an old woman, the face rendered with deeply furrowed brows, narrow smiling eyes, and elongated cheeks tapering toward a pointed chin. The expressive features are softened by a gentle smile revealing small teeth, while the hair is neatly arranged in parted strands and gathered into a topknot, framing the face with quiet dignity. The reverse with a lobed central himotoshi bar and signed SHUMIN. HEIGHT 4.9 cm
