拍品描述
AN UNUSUAL AND EXQUISITE BAMBOO NETSUKE OF A HOODED LADY Unsigned Japan, 19th century, Edo period (1615-1868) Charmingly carved from a small section of bamboo, the netsuke depicts the face of a lady emerging from within a hood or wrapped cloth, ingeniously utilizing the natural form of the material. Her serene, joyful expression is delicately rendered with painted eyes and lips, contrasting beautifully with the naturally speckled bamboo surface. The section is left largely naturalistic, its organic contours, warm patina, and tactile surface enhancing the rustic charm of the composition. Himotoshi to the reverse. HEIGHT 2.4 cm
