Ɏ A FINE OSAKA SCHOOL IVORY NETSUKE OF A PAIR OF QUAILS ON MILLET Unsigned Japan, Osaka, mid-19th century, Edo period (1615-1868) Finely incised and carved in openwork to depict two quails, carved side by side and facing in different directions, perched on two large heads of leafy millet stocks, one of the leaves forming the cord attachment. Both birds with neatly incised plumage detailed with sumi-e staining to the engraving, typical for the Osaka school, and minutely inlaid eyes.
