Ɏ A LARGE IVORY NETSUKE OF A RECLINING CHOKARO SENNIN Unsigned Japan, first half of the 18th century, Edo period (1615-1868) Finely carved as Chokaro sennin reclining at ease, his head resting on one hand while the other holds a gourd at his side. His robes are neatly detailed with finely incised folds and patterned decoration, opening at the chest to reveal the emaciated body beneath. The face is rendered with a serene, slightly smiling expression, capturing the immortal’s playful yet benevolent character. The ivory has developed an attractive warm yellow patina. Good, well-hollowed, asymmetrical himotoshi underneath. LENGTH 7.2 cm Trade Certificate: The trade certificate for the sale of this lot within the EU has been granted (permit number AT 26-B-0179).
