拍品描述
A LARGE INLAID LACQUER ‘EGRET AND INSECTS OVER A LOTUS POND’ HANGING PANEL Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912) Of rectangular form, the lustrous dark-brown lacquer ground finely decorated in silver and iro-e takamaki-e and further enriched with inlays of mother-of-pearl, antler, coral, and horn. The naturalistic composition depicts an egret perched among broad lotus leaves and flowering stems rising from a tranquil pond, accompanied by a small frog clambering across one leaf, a dragonfly hovering nearby, and further insects concealed among the foliage. The contrasting materials and subtly varied relief lend the scene remarkable depth, texture, and animation. SIZE 37.8 x 51.6 cm (incl. frame)
