He studied under Kita Kiyoshi beginning in 1970 and became an independent artist in 1975. Throughout his career, he has been recognized with awards at the Wajima City Museum exhibitions and honored by the Wajima City Lacquer Sample Cooperative Group. The shape of this natsume is conventionally designated Fubuki, literally ‘snowstorm’, and is distinguished by its chamfered edges at both the upper and lower sections, together with a continuous and flowing decorative scheme that renders the distinction between top and bottom barely discernible. This design is also referred to as Men-nakatsugi style, a variant highly valued by the celebrated tea master Kobori Enshu (1579–1647), whose aesthetic ideals shaped the refinement of the tea ceremony during the early Edo period under the Tokugawa shogunate.
