A FINE AND RARE ‘SILK MOTH’ LACQUER KOGO (INCENSE BOX) Japan, late 19th century, Meiji period (1868-1912) In the shape of a silk moth with two cocoons, the insect bearing a kinji ground finely decorated in takamaki-e and hiramaki-e and the cocoons of brown textured lacquer. The depiction of the inrobuta (flush-fitting) lid extends to the sides with silk threads in gold hiramaki-e. The underside and interior of nashiji with gold fundame rims. SIZE 3 x 3.9 x 8 cm With a silk storage box.
