HAYASHI KYOSUKE (LIVING NATIONAL TREASURE): A LARGE YELLOW- AND GREEN-COLORED STONEWARE VASE By Hayashi Kyosuke (b. 1962), signed by the artist Japan, Heisei period (1989-2019) Skillfully shaped, of conical form, resting on a small circular base and rising to a wide mouth with subtly inward-curving rims. The surface entirely coated in a textured yellow finish, while the exterior is adorned with elongated moss-green streaks running the full height of the piece. The underside incised with the artist’s signature. HEIGHT 38.8 cm With the original wood storage box (tomobako), signed and sealed by the artist. Hayashi Kyosuke (b. 1962) was born in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture, one of Japan's foremost ceramic centers. After studying at the Toki City Ceramic Research Institute, he trained under the celebrated potter Kato Kozo, designated a Living National Treasure for Setoguro ware. Hayashi established his own kiln in Inuyama in 1997, where he has developed a distinctive oeuvre characterized by refined forms and richly textured glazes rooted in the Mino ceramic tradition. In June 2026, he was designated a holder of the Gifu Prefectural Important Intangible Cultural Property (Ki-Seto) in recognition of his outstanding achievements in ceramic art.
