TAKENAKA KO: A FINE CLEAR-GLAZED PORCELAIN FACETED BOTTLE VASE By Takenaka Ko (b. 1941), signed Take Japan, late 20th century, Heisei period (1989-2019) Exquisitely modeled, the faceted pear-shaped body rising from a short, straight foot to a gently waisted neck terminating in a subtly everted rim. The surface is entirely covered with a clear bluish-white glaze, except for the foot rim, which is left unglazed to reveal the white porcelain body beneath. The underside bears the signature TAKE. HEIGHT 28.6 cm DIAMETER 17.5 cm With the original wood storage box (tomobako), inscribed on the exterior of the lid: Hakuji Mentori bin 白磁 面取瓶 [White porcelain faceted vase]. The interior of the cover signed and sealed by the artist: Takenaka Ko zo 竹中浩 造 [made by Takenaka Ko]. Takenaka Ko (b. 1941) began his career in 1961 as a ceramics apprentice to Kondo Yuzo, the Kyoto-based master renowned for his bold underglaze painting and designated a Living National Treasure in 1977. In 1966, Takenaka first exhibited at the Traditional Crafts Exhibition, and four years later established his own studio in Yamashina, on the eastern outskirts of Kyoto.
