拍品描述
A SUPERB AND RARE LARGE WOOD OKIMONO OF A CHINESE ELDER Japan, late 19th century, Meiji period (1868-1912) Finely carved in the round, the figure depicts a bearded Chinese elder seated in a composed and dignified posture upon a large chair of naturalistic, root-form design, carved separately. One leg is drawn up onto the seat while the torso remains upright. He is dressed in voluminous robes falling in deeply carved, flowing folds across the body. In his left hand, he holds a long sword resting diagonally across his lap, while in his right he raises a foliate-shaped Tang-dynasty mirror with two small hanging tassels. The face is characterized by high, furrowed brows, deeply set eyes, and a calm, introspective expression. A long, finely detailed beard extends over the chest, intricately carved and adorned with small bead-like elements. The hair falls neatly to the shoulders. HEIGHT 36.3 cm
