A VERY LARGE (130 CM) GILT-LACQUER WOOD FIGURE OF STANDING KANNON, LATE EDO PERIOD Japan, late Edo period (1615-1868) The very large figure standing on a double lotus dais with the right hand in abhaya mudra and the left hand holding a lotus bud, dressed in fine robes decorated to the lower section with colorful glass cabochons, the face with a serene expression, the eyes painted behind glass inlays and centered by a glass byakugo (urna). The head surmounted by a tall chignon secured with a metal crown, the neck decorated with a similar metal necklace suspending long beaded tassels, all backed by a kohai (halo) with fine scrolling clouds.
