AN IMPORTANT GILT-BRONZE FIGURE OF KANNON BOSATSU, ASUKA-NARA PERIOD Japan, 7th-8th century, Asuka (592-710) to Nara period (710-794) Finely cast standing in a gracefully bent pose with forward stance and arched back, atop a double-lotus base raised on a circular plinth, dressed in long flowing robes and billowing scarves, the chest adorned with a beaded and jeweled necklace, the serene face with heavy-lidded eyes, elegantly arched brows, circular urna, and slender bow-shaped lips forming a subtle smile, the hair arranged in a high chignon behind the foliate crown centered by a diminutive image of the Amitabha Buddha, the back of the head cast with a small rectangular loop.
