GOTO MITSUNAGA: A CHARMING SHIBUICHI TSUBA WITH JUROJIN AND MINOGAME By Goto Mitsunaga, signed Naka Goto Mitsunaga with kao Japan, 19th century, Edo period (1615-1868) Of marugata form, with one kogai and kozuka hitsu ana, the shibuichi migakiji (polished) ground inlaid in gold, silver, and shakudo depicting to one side Jurojin holding a cane which suspends scrolls, a crane flying above, and the reverse with a minutely carved minogame at the shore. Signed to one side NAKA GOTO MITSUNAGA with kao. HEIGHT 7.3 cm, LENGTH 6.9 cm, 2.7 cm (the nakago), THICKNESS 0.4 cm (the mimi), 0.4 cm (the seppa-dai) WEIGHT 148.8 g There are two Goto Mitsunaga listed in the Haynes Index of Japanese Sword Fittings and Associated Artists on p. 1074 (H 05285.0 and H 05286.0).
