MASANAGA: A FINE IRON TSUBA WITH A TIGER IN A CAVE By Masanaga, signed Masanaga saku Japan, 18th century, Edo period (1615-1868) Of nademarugata form, the kogai hitsu ana with shakudo sekigane and the nakago ana with copper sekigane, worked in marubori with gold and copper takazogan and hirazogan, featuring a stealthy tiger emerging from a cave, framed by bamboo and clouds, and signed MASANAGA saku [made by Masanaga]. HEIGHT 7.4 cm, LENGTH 7 cm WEIGHT 175.3 g There are several Masanaga listed in Robert E. Haynes, The Index of Japanese Sword Fittings and Associated Artists on p.904-904 (H 04247.0-H 04253.0).
