A WAKIZASHI IN KOSHIRAE Japan, Edo period (1615-1868) The blade: Sugata (shape): shinogi zukuri, iori mune, minor torii-zori, chu-kissaki Hamon (temper line): midare with nie-deki Hada (forging grain pattern): masame Boshi (tip): komaru Nakago (tang): ubu (not shortened), haagari-kuri-jiri, the yasurime is katte sagari and kesho, one mekugi ana The mounting: Habaki (blade collar): gilt silver with diagonal file marks and dew drops Tsuba (sword guard): of tatemarugata form, yo-sukashi, gold takazogan, featuring a goose and reeds Fuchi-kashira (handle fittings): suaka, shakudo, and silver takazogan with katabori and kebori turbulent waves Tsuka (handle): samegawa (rayskin) with dark brown tsuka-ito, two gold menuki with floral sprays of kiku Saya (sheath): black lacquer with fine aoigai dust and silver inlaid sayajiri if form of turbulent waves Kogai (hair arranging tool): iron nanako with takabori chicken NAGASA 37cm (blade length), SORI 0.4 cm (curvature) LENGTH 49.6 cm (blade and tang), 55.9 cm (koshirae)
