A LACQUERED NERIKAWA KABUTO WITH MATSUNAGA CLAN MON Japan, Edo period (1615–1868) The finely striated hachi formed from lacquered nerikawa (hardened leather) and surmounted by a three-stage gilt-copper tehen kanamono. The upturned fukigaeshi are each decorated to the center with a tsuta (ivy) mon, associated with the Matsunaga clan. The four-lame iron jikoro and fukigaeshi are lacquered, the front centered by a circular gilt-wood maedate. The underside of the brim is lacquered red. HEIGHT 26 cm WEIGHT 1,234 g
