HIDETSUGU: A SUPERB IRON ‘DOVES AND MAPLE’ BOX AND COVER By Hidetsugu, signed Hidetsugu koku Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912) Of rectangular form with rounded corners, supported on four feet, finely cast in high relief to depict two doves perched atop a maple branch, the details superbly highlighted in gold. The plumage is finely incised, and the eyes are inlaid in gold, bringing the scene to life. The rims and interior is silver, the interior lid engraved with very fine katakiribori with maple leaves. Signed to the lower left HIDETSUGU koku [engraved by Hidetsugu].
