SHINBO: A FINE MIXED METAL AND ENAMEL INLAID GILT BRONZE ‘LOTUS’ BOX AND COVER By Shinbo, sealed Shinbo Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912) Of rectangular form, the inrobuta (flush-fitting) lid elaborately decorated in iro-e takazogan within a square panel depicting a silver lotus blossom in relief, the leaves and details highlighted in finely applied, vibrant enamels. The central panel is framed by a band incised in kebori and katakiribori with butterflies, while the sides are elegantly sprinkled with gilt. Sealed to the underside within a square cartouche SHINBO.
