Pair of Iconic and Massive Chinese Export Armorial Mugs from the service of Admiral ‘Hot ‘n Hot' Hughes, British naval officer who figured prominently in the Revolutionary War ca. 1790; featuring two double strap handles with floral terminals; bearing the arms of HUGHES with supporters dressed as foot soldiers holding pennants and the shield encircled by the ribbon of the Order of the Bath, inscribed with the motto FORWARD below trailing ribbons and enclosing waves, above all the crest out of a naval coronet a naked arm embowed holding a scimitar; decorated with cobalt blue trellis and spearhead underglazed border; height: 8 in.
