This elegant tripod incense burner is sturdily potted in imitation of an archaic bronze li vessel, featuring a compressed globular body divided into three distinct sculptural lobes. Each lobe tapers gracefully down to a slightly splayed columnar leg, while the body flares at the waist into a short, cylindrical neck that terminates in a wide, subtly everted rim. Three vertical, raised ridges run seamlessly down the outer edge of each leg, thinning out at the crests to allow the pale ceramic body beneath to subtly peek through in a classic chujian effect. The exterior and interior surfaces are enveloped in an exceptionally smooth, lustrous sea-green glaze of an unctuous, jade-like quality that pools beautifully around the vessel's contours. Revealing a fine-grained body that has fired to a characteristic iron-brown hue at the unglazed tips of the feet, this piece represents a classic homage to the celebrated monochrome wares of the Southern Song dynasty.
