Tang dynasty, Ca. AD 618 - 907. A pair of terracotta female figures, each shown seated upright on an integral rectangular base, the long robes spread over the legs, with a short upper garment and long sleeves. The heads are modelled with rounded faces and painted lips, the hair arranged in elaborate high coiffures. The figure on the left holds a guqin across the lap, and the figure on the right holds a flute to the mouth. Size: 220-220mm x 130-130mm; Weight: 2.4kg Provenance: UK private collection of Asian Art; formerly acquired in the early 1990s in Hong Kong. This piece has been precisely dated using a thermoluminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla. The report will accompany the lot.
