Tang dynasty, Ca. AD 618 - 907. A pair of terracotta female figures, each shown standing on an integral rectangular base and wearing a long robe falling to the feet, with a short upper garment and a shawl across the shoulders. The faces are modelled with narrow eyes and painted lips, the hair dressed in elaborate coiffures rising high above the head. The figure on the left holds a flute held to the mouth, and the figure on the right holds a pair of clappers before the chest. Size: 265-265mm x 140-140mm; Weight: 2.4kg Provenance: From the private collection of a Somerset gentleman; previously in an old British collection, formed in the 1990s on the UK /European art markets. This piece has been precisely dated using a thermoluminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla. The report will accompany the lot.
