Tang dynasty, Ca. AD 618 - 907. A collection of three terracotta figures of female dancers, each shown standing in a swaying pose with one arm raised above the head and the other extended to the side. Each wears a long belted robe over a floor-length skirt, the sleeves modelled wide at the cuffs, and the tips of the shoes shown at the hem. The heads are turned in varied directions, with rounded faces and red-painted lips, the hair gathered into a double topknot. Traces of pigment remain, including red and orange on the robes and pale wash on the faces and hands. For similar see: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Object Number: 28.106.6. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter. This piece has been precisely dated using a thermoluminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla. The report will accompany the lot.
