Ca. AD 618 - 907. A terracotta figure of a female musician seated astride a standing horse on an integral rectangular base. The rider is shown upright with the head turned slightly, the hair arranged in a high coiffure, wearing a long robe with a draped shawl, and holding a harp. The horse is modelled with pricked ears and an open mouth, the body painted dark, with a saddle and a patterned saddlecloth edged in red. Size: 440mm x 370mm; Weight: 3.67kg Provenance: UK private collection; formerly acquired in the early 1990s in Hong Kong. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter. This piece has been precisely dated using a thermoluminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla. The report will accompany the lot.
