Western Han dynasty, Ca. 206 BC - AD 9. A polychrome terracotta figure of a kneeling woman with the hands concealed within the long sleeves and held before the chest in a formal greeting gesture. The head is modelled with a rounded face, narrow eyes and a small mouth, framed by centre-parted hair drawn back into a long tied coiffure at the nape. The figure wears a voluminous robe, with painted red detailing confined to the collar and sleeve cuffs, and a belt indicated at the waist.This piece has been precisely dated using a thermoluminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla.
