GANDHARAN STUCCO FIGURE OF A WARRIOR

Ca. 100 BC - AD 300. A stucco figure of a warrior, modelled kneeling with the left knee raised and the right folded beneath, the head turned to the left. The rounded face has a prominent moustache, almond-shaped eyes, a straight nose, and a small mouth, framed by a coiffure of tightly curled hair. The hands grip a long, narrow belt-like element descending along his right side. The reverse is left plain and roughly finished. Size: 185mm x 90mm; Weight: 490g Provenance: Property of an Oxfordshire art professional; previously in an old British collection, formed in the 1970s on the Canadian art market.
