Ca. AD 25 - 220. A terracotta figure of a dog modelled recumbent with the forelegs extended and the hindquarters folded beneath, the head raised and turned to the side with erect ears, rounded eyes, and an open mouth showing the tongue and teeth. The muzzle is broad with pierced nostrils and incised whisker marks. A short tail curves outward behind the haunch.This piece has been precisely dated using a thermoluminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla. The report will accompany the lot.
