BACTRIAN STONE IDOL

Ca. 2200 - 1800 BC. A carved stone idol with a nearly spherical body and an anthropomorphic head, the neck encircled by a shallow collar. The face is schematised with arched brows, narrow eyes, a prominent nose and a slit mouth. The hair is modelled as a smooth cap continuing down the sides. Size: 90mm x 50mm; Weight: 325g Provenance: Property of an Oxfordshire art professional; previously in an old British collection, formed in the 1970s on the Canadian art market.
