清中期 白玉雕'文會圖'大筆筒 Of cylindrical form raised on a slightly splayed foot, the stone of pale celadon-white tone with areas of russet and natural inclusions, boldly carved in high and undercut relief with a continuous mountainous landscape. The exterior depicts a lively wenhui (scholars’ gathering) scene, with figures engaged in conversation and scholarly pursuits around a table, accompanied by attendants, set amidst craggy rockwork, overhanging cliffs, and winding terraces. Pavilions with sweeping eaves emerge from the landscape, partially concealed by pine and flowering trees. Qing Dynasty period. Height: 7 3/4 in (19.7 cm) Width: 8 1/4 in (21.0 cm) Brushpots of this type, carved with literati scenes, are characteristic of mid-Qing dynasty jade craftsmanship, combining functional purpose with aesthetic and cultural significance. The present example reflects the high level of technical accomplishment associated with imperial and elite workshops, embodying both artistic refinement and the cultivated ideals of the scholar class.
