清 蘇作巧雕瑪瑙 '紫氣東來' 詩文鼻煙壺 碧璽蓋 Of rounded form, finely carved from a translucent greyish-white agate with natural dark inclusions, skillfully utilized in high relief to depict Laozi, riding an ox beneath swirling clouds, accompanied by a pine and rockwork landscape. The reverse inscribed with the characters ziqi donglai (‘auspicious vapours arriving from the east’). The stone of even, soft tone with subtle inclusions enhancing the composition. With a pink tourmaline stopper and gilt-metal collar. Qing Dynasty period.
