SELJUK BRONZE INCENSE BURNER

Ca. AD 1200. A bronze incense burner with a cylindrical, lidded body raised on three feline feet, the lower register encircled by a frieze of scrolling foliage. The upper section is hinged and formed as a domed cover with openwork panels and narrow collars. A tall double finial with pierced bands surmounts the lid and terminates in a quadruped, with a bird perched on its back and pecking towards its head.
