Ca. AD 900 - 1000. A pair of earthenware bowls, each with a wide truncated conical body and a low foot ring, the exteriors plain. The bowl on the left is painted inside with a central rosette within a roundel, surrounded by a geometric lattice of intersecting bands with polychrome infill and small rosette devices. The bowl on the right is painted with a central roundel enclosing a quatrefoil, surrounded by interlaced bands enclosing four further quatrefoils and panels filled with fine curvilinear hatching. Size: 235-250mm x 90-90mm; Weight: 1.2kg Provenance: Property of a West London gentleman; previously in a collection formed on the UK/International art market since the 1970s.
