PAIR OF TERRACOTTA VESSELS: A GREEK CHALICE AND A DAUNIAN BICHROME KYATHOS

Ca. 550 - 300 BC. A pair of terracotta vessels, from left to right: a large terracotta chalice with a broad, deep cup set on a waisted stem above a spreading foot; and a large kyathos with a broad, shallow bowl and a tall upstanding handle rising from the rim, formed as an open loop with a flat front panel and a bifurcated finial flanking a central stem with two applied discs. Two small lug projections flank the handle. Horizontal bands in dark paint and red encircle the rim and body, with a lozenge panel on the handle front. The interior is decorated with an eight-pointed star within concentric bands, set within a polygonal device with short projecting strokes, and the underside with a wheel motif of radiating spokes within concentric circles and a notched border.
