GREEK TERRACOTTA GORGONEION

Ca. 400 - 300 BC. A terracotta gorgoneion modelled in relief as a forward-facing female mask. The oval face has a rounded chin, heavy-lidded eyes beneath arched brows, a straight nose, and closed lips. The hair is arranged in thick, deeply incised locks framing the cheeks and gathered into a knot at the crown. The reverse is flattened and undecorated. For similar see: M. Rubinich, A.
