Middle Kingdom, Ca. 2055 - 1790 BC. A pair of wooden rowers, each carved as an upright seated male figure with a rounded head and short wig, the faces with painted eyes and a triangular nose. The shoulders have mortises to receive separate arms, and the long torsos taper to block-like legs. The bodies are painted red over a white gesso ground.
