Middle Kingdom, Ca. 2055 - 1790 BC. A pair of wooden rowers, each painted red over a white gesso, including, from left to right: a slender standing figure with a short wig and an elongated body tapering to divided legs, the shoulders with mortises for separately fitted arms and the face with black-painted eyes and brows; and a more compact figure with a black wig and painted eyes, the shoulders drilled for arm attachment and the lower body cut as a plain block.
