BYZANTINE HIGH KARAT GOLD PENDANT WITH GARNETS AND GLASS CABOCHONS

Ca. AD 400 - 600. A gold pendant of trefoil outline with a beaded border and an integral suspension loop. The obverse is set with a garnet at the centre and a drop-shaped cabochon above, flanked by two blue glass inserts in circular collets. Four wire dangles hang from the lower edge on small loops. Size: 44mm x 23mm; Weight: 2.4g Provenance: Private London collection; acquired in Munich, Germany in the 1990s.
