RARE CANAANITE SILVER VOTIVE BULL

Ca. 1000 BC. A silver votive bull cast standing on four legs, the head turned slightly with pierced nostrils and curving horns, the body modelled with a short dewlap and a long tail. A suspension loop rises at the withers. Each flank is fitted with groups of four arrow-shaped cells for inlay. Size: 70mm x 50mm; Weight: 25g Provenance: Property of a London collector A. J., acquired in London in the 1990s; formerly in an old European family collection formed in the late 1970s. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
