GHAZNAVID BRONZE LAMP AND STAND

Ca. AD 1100 - 1300. A bronze lamp on a tall stand, raised on three splayed feet supporting a scalloped platform with a central dome. Engraved bands and roundels encircle the platform, above which a short collar supports a tall shaft built from a sequence of baluster elements. A wide circular drip tray with a raised beaded rim is set at the top of the shaft. Above sits an oil lamp with a shallow bowl on a flaring foot, with a projecting nozzle and a vertical loop handle surmounted by a bird-shaped terminal, and a hinged lid topped by a smaller perched bird; the exterior with engraved and punched ornament.
