Ca. AD 1000 - 1200. A brass alloy oil lamp on a tall openwork stand, the base formed as a domed pierced foot with three splayed legs and lateral projections, rising through a baluster stem to a long cylindrical shaft with pierced panels and a second baluster element. A drip tray with a raised gallery is encircled by an engraved epigraphic band interrupted by roundels. The lamp is set on a short pedestal, with a rounded body and a projecting spout, the upper surface engraved with panels of geometric and vegetal ornament. An oval handle rises behind the reservoir and is surmounted by an elephant finial, with additional applied lugs around the shoulder, and a hinged lid with a small bird.
