Ca. AD 1000 - 1300. A bronze mortar and pestle set. The mortar is of a thick-walled cylindrical bowl with a flat base and a straight rim. Two narrow incised bands run around the upper wall and two around the lower wall. The bronze pestle is a tapering rod with a broad grinding head at one end and a smaller button terminal at the other.Size: 65-125mm x 35-50mm; Weight: 685gProvenance: Private UK collection; From an old London collection formed in the 1990s.This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
