拍品描述
Ca. AD 1845 - 1854. A rare Victorian British infantry officer's sword with a working folding guard and a blade etched with the regimental crest of the The Queen?s Royal Regiment (West Surrey), then the 2nd (The Queen's Royal) Regiment of Foot. The blade is single-fullered, with a crowned ?VR? and scrolling foliage etched on both sides of the blade. The right ricasso bears the proof mark whilst the left side is etched with the name of the outfitter Firmin and Sons. Some loss to the grip and guard, though it retains 6 of its original 7 handle wire wraps. Also retained is the very rare black leather hilt liner. The folding guard works perfectly, though had been totally phased out in favour of a solid guard by 1854. The blade style is of an 1845 pattern, meaning that further research into this 10-year period of the regiments history may reveal its owner. Size: 970mm x 100mm; Weight: 900g Provenance:From a central London collection, previously from an English East Midlands collection.
