ROMAN HIGH KARAT GOLD DISC PENDANT WITH LEGIONARY EAGLE

Ca. AD 1 - 300. A gold disc-shaped pendant with a beaded outer border and concentric moulded bands framing a circular field, decorated in relief with an eagle with spread wings. A suspension loop is fixed at the top, with a secondary loop below. The reverse is plain and flat. Size: 25mm x 18mm; Weight: 1.9g Provenance: Private London collection; previously part of a distinguished New York private collection, assembled between 1975 and 1995. The collection was authenticated in the early 1990s by Dr. Jack Ogden and Barbara Deppert Lippitz, leading specialists in ancient jewellery. A significant number of objects from this collection were also published in a professional catalogue.
