Ca. AD 1300 - 1400. A sgraffito ware chalice with a broad, tapering cup on a short stem and a stepped foot, the rim slightly everted. The exterior is encircled below the lip by an incised frieze of scrolling foliage between ruled bands. The interior is decorated with a central spiral within concentric rings, surrounded by a radiating floral motif, with subsidiary panels of spirals and leaf forms spaced around the well. Size: 115mm x 155mm; Weight: 485g Provenance: Provenance: Property of a central London gallery; Ex collection of James Alfred Brew (1923 - 2008), collected in Cyprus during the 1960s. Thence by descent to Elaine Brew. Discovered in Elea. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
