PAIR OF BALTIC VIKING SILVER BROOCHES AND MEDALLION

Ca. AD 700 - 900. A pair of two large silver Viking brooches with niello and a silver medallion. The external band of the brooches are embellished with intricate phytomorphic and vegetal motifs. The internal band is embellished with geometric motifs. The finials are adorned with square panels. The brooches have square decorative finials. The long silver pins of the brooches are flat with a ribbed head. The silver medallion is round with a central cross inscribed in a vegetal frame. Size: 310mm x 220mm; Weight: 100g (1.1kg with frame). Provenance: Private London collection; acquired on the European art market prior to 2000. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter. This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy.
