BYZANTINE BRONZE SCALE WITH INSCRIPTION

Ca. AD 500. A bronze steelyard scale with a long faceted beam engraved with graduations and an inscription, the ends finished with pointed finials. Above the beam sits a pivoting suspension hook, with two sliding S-hooks for counterweights to the right. From a fixed hook hangs a triple chain supporting a circular plate.
