Ca. AD 175 - 200. An agate head of Marcus Aurelius, carved with wide drilled eyes, a prominent nose, and the full moustache and beard rendered in short incised locks. The hair is formed as a thick cap of curls over the brow and temples, with a fillet tied across the head. Size: 21mm x 18mm; Weight: 7.8g Provenance: Private UK collection; acquired in Germany; formerly with G. Metz, Sweden 1980s-1990s. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter. This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy.
