EGYPTIAN STONE AND GOLD LEAF SCARAB WITH QUADRUPED

Middle Kingdom, Ca. 2055 - 1790 BC. A stone and gold leaf scarab amulet with a rounded, smooth back, the pronotum separated from the elytra by a transverse groove. The flat underside is engraved with a quadruped in profile. Size: 20mm x 13mm; Weight: 2.7g Provenance: Private London collection; previously part of a distinguished New York private collection, assembled between 1975 and 1995. The collection was authenticated in the early 1990s by Dr. Jack Ogden and Barbara Deppert Lippitz, leading specialists in ancient jewellery. A significant number of objects from this collection were also published in a professional catalogue.
